Anti depressant in homoeopathy or ayurveda

Hi, are there any anti- depressant medicines in homeopathy and ayurveda? How long do they take to show some effect ? What anti-depressant would you suggest for a TB patient showing signs of mild depression . The patient is either irritable or crying with self pity. Wish there was someway to counsel the patient. Allopathic medicine like Tryptomer was suggested, but the patient had severe headaches with it and that was only adding to the agony. Are there any safer anti depressants for the patient that have no such pain causing side effects. Please suggest.

Hi,

Depression is a state of mind and counselling is required.
He needs to be realized of his self worth.
He needs quality time to express his fears and then fight those fears with real solutions.
His family can play a good role in that.
Besides that,take ayurvedic treatment:
Shirodhara -panchkarma procedure for head has scientifically proven results.
Among drugs-brahmivati 2 tab at night before bed.
tab Prasham 2 twice after meals
and aswaghandarishta 2tsf twice after meals.
Wish him good health.

HomeopathDr. Preeti Balwani's Response
Hello,
Welcome,
First of all this should be noted that cause of depression isT.B. so the patient needs to be explained by the doctor that this is a curable disease so not to be depressed, regular complete treatment will definitely help the patient. Irritability and anger are the predisposing symptoms of depression, also they come from anxiety about the disease, feeling of helplessness, dependence on others, also side effect of antitubercular drugs. But as there is no other way to overcome this disease.so i would advice to take him to some homoeopahic psyhiatric counselor who will counsel for this mental state and will prescribe medicines to help depressive state and prevent from taking sedatives, which the patient will be unable to tolerate.
Take care of him.

Ayurveda SpecialistDr. Packriswamy Sambangi's Response
Hallo,
From the stand point of Ayurveda there are two main causes of depression.
1.An imbalance in the three doshas, VATA, PITTA , and KAPHA.
2.A lack of awareness of one's deeper, innerself.
From the Ayurvedic point of view, most depression is a kapha imbalance that is the culmination of vata and then pitta going out of balance. Initially the brains electrochemistry has an erratic overreactions [ vata imbalance ], which triggers a loss of enzymatic activity in the metabolism [ pitta imbalance]. Kapha responds by trying to glue everything down, bringing about heaviness, darkness and stagnation that the mind - body interprets as the negative message of hopelessness and depression.
The Ayurvedic treatment is based on the mind - body constitution of the person and which dosha is in imbalance.
Herbal alternatives such as BACOPA, MENTAT, and ASWAGANDHA tablets have also been shown to have very positive effects in treating depression. Moreover they are non- habit forming and have none of the side effects of antidepressants.
